FAQ

How do I get started?

Create a new account.

Safely package your drive (ESD + bubble-wrap) and mail it to our business postal box.

Please ensure your drive(s) arrive 3-4 days before the end of the month.

What hard drives does your system support?

We support 3.5" SAS/SATA drives.

(If you provide a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter, we can load those too.)

Are there drive capacity limitations?

Nope! (The largest we've seen is 28 TB!)

Can I send pre-seeded drives?

Of course! It's a major selling point of our service.

How do I contact support?

Please email support@zfs.rent.

Our main support personnel (Scott) is pretty quick to respond.

Are subscriptions pro-rotated?

Yes! Your balance is not debited until your drives are loaded!

What are the VM specifications?

Each drive slot increases the compute specs by:

  • 1 vCPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 25 NVMe SSD (boot disk)

For example: two drives -> 2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM / 50 GB NVMe.

What uplink/downlink speeds can I expect?

  • We have two 1 Gbps transit links.
  • We have three 10 Gbps internet exchange links.
  • Check out our IPv4 Peers and IPv6 Peers

If we are peered with your ISP, you may experience up to 10 Gbps.

Otherwise, traffic will cross one of our 1 Gbps transit links.

*Actual transfer rates depend on network contention.

What do you charge for data transfer?

All plans include 1 TB per month.

Additional data transfer is $5/TB.

What happens if I decide not to renew?

No problem!

Please email support@zfs.rent and we will walk you through the return process.

What datacenter does zfs.rent use?

We use Hurricane Electric colocation. They are located in Fremont, CA.
